Brenda, The Astonishing

Imagine their surprise when, upon meeting, the angel and the aurochs discover that they both have the same name! Bifidus Jones celebrates the fact that we all share the same “star stuff” as Carl Sagan calls it. We are the cosmos. It’s out there and it’s within us. We are the Universe experiencing itself again and again. We are all astonishing.

The background text of Brenda, The Astonishing,  is derived from a page of Marcel Proust’s “Swann’s Way” the first of seven volumes that constitute Proust’s lifework In Search of Lost Time, but the artist has changed the pronoun from the singular “I” to the plural “we”  throughout the text. The map fragments are of California. The aurochs is inspired from the bulls painted in the cave of Altamira, Spain.
